Brent Knoll

Rhiannons Wheel - Robin Hood and the Sorcerer / The kings fool
Ring of the Nine Maidens - The time of the Wolf

Wednesday, August 25th

After breakfast we started towards Brent. Still dealing with difficulties with driving on the 'wrong' side of the street (and btw having no idea about British traffic regulations) we managed to find Brent Knoll.

Well, it's not difficult to loose a hill in the middle of flat land. But how to get on top of it? After circling around it twice by car we decided to park the car in the village and try to find a footpath.
Just a few steps from the car we had a very beautiful view of the church.

Still searching for a footpath (While driving around the hill we saw some signs with 'public footpath' on it - leading right through pasture.) we found something that looked like a path. But we were absolutely not sure whether or not it was public... or even leading to the top.
We decided to give it a try. The path turned out to be very muddy and with lots of blackberrys left and right (which were unfortunately still green). But in the end it widened and we even found official signs leading to 'The Knoll'.
Finally we reached the top where it was very windy.
And the view was breathtaking. To one side we could see the sea...
and to the other side we saw Glastonbury Tor.
As the stones at 'Rhiannon's Wheel' and 'Ring of the Nine Maidens' were faked it was difficult to find the right perspective to proof this was shot here...

But wait.... what was that.... no stones but...
well it seems like the nine maidens were tired standing in a circle and also increased to eleven over the last twenty years. ;o)
(draw mouse over the picture!)

On our way back to the car we discovered the way leading through the churchyard was way less muddy and thorny. ;o)

When we reached the car I took all my courage and tried to drive a 'left handed' automatic car on the 'wrong' side...
and well... I managed ;o)
From this moment on Jutta never got back to the drivers seat.

We also tried to find Brent Castle where Nottingham exterior Series 3 was shot, but we had no luck.
Which is almost unbelivable because Brent Knoll Village is very small.
